If you're looking to earn a living using nothing more than TRADITIONAL HANDICAPPING, forget it, unless sleeping in you car is an acceptable lifestyle.  Given the nature of the beast, the likelihood of having enough accurate information to even sustain such an attempt, plus sufficient presence of mind to correctly interpret matters along the way, is highly remote, however modest your living standards.  There was a time, to be sure, when "sharp players" did quite well, some of whom actually supported both habit and home.  But times have changed. TRADITIONAL HANDICAPPING, once the final word for many players, has "fallen on hard times."  Experienced players who for years had more winning days than losing days, now find the opposite to be true, a humbling reality for the large number of individuals who have walked away from the game, also known as the great exodus.  Indeed, to develop the type of mindset that would allow a player to pick and then confidently GET DOWN (gamble) on some of the game's outrageous Form Reversals, represents a monumental transition that few of the Old Faces have been able to successfully make.

But what about the New Faces? Confused and reeling, exchanging vacant expressions, they don't even have a prayer. Whether you are one of the few remaining Old Faces, or one of the latest victims (New Faces), matters little: TRADITIONAL HANDICAPPING rarely produces anything but LOSERS. If you have any doubts, check your wallet.

Getting Down was originally envisioned as an information site, one that would generate sufficient awareness to bring about a change in the way the gambling game is currently played, to force abusive trainers to provide humane treatment for horses.  For example, Getting Down - hopefully with the support of an informed public - plans an aggressive campaign, at the political level,  to enforce a 24-hour isolation period, in a secured holding facility, for all horses prior to competition time;  that all horses used for gambling purposes be totally drug-free;  that all horses be tacked up (saddled, etc.) by personnel, on a random basis, who are employed by a state agency;   that all horses "suffering" from joint/bone disorders, tendon and/or ligament injuries, be disqualified from competing;  that any and all dishonest trainers and jockeys be given stiff fines and mandatory jail sentences.  It just makes sense.  The implementation of these measures will cost money.  But what reasonable person would object to having a few more pennies skimmed out of his or her gambling money for such a worthwhile endeavor.  If gambling fans everywhere knew their interests were given high priority, the response would undoubtedly be so great any number of new Gambling Tracks (GTs) would have to be constructed.  In simple terms, if the game's purveyors are unwilling to provide Legitimate Verification for their conduct at all times, or unwilling to guarantee that legitimate racing is being conducted at all times, it's time for an aware public to force Legitimate Verification down their throats, however unpalatable.  And resist they will.

The art of being able to detect Form Reversals is what separates Getting Down from the field.  Our staff thoroughly understands how the game of SC horse racing is played, under what conditions it is likely to appear, at what GTs it is most likely to occur, and which trainers and jockeys are most likely to participate, to include which horses, based on comparative breeding, are best suited for a given distance, along with how horses "physically stack up."

Only recently we added the likes of Professor Karl L. Reighberger to our team.  In addition to having owned race horses, Professor Reighberger is recognized as one of the world's foremost experts in all types of gambling fraud. He specializes in BOOMERS (big odds) - both manufactured and legitimate.  "Gambling fans should never forget," he explained recently, "that a legitimate Boomer, one that has been clearly ridden to win in its most recent outings, can take action without discouraging the trainer (from trying with the horse).  But a manufactured Boomer, if coming under too much down pressure (bet too low), is likely to run slow once again.  Roughly 97 percent of all stables gamble.  High odds and Gimmick Gambling represent the two biggest factors in stable activity."

While some of Getting Down's picks may reflect a number of common-sense factors held by astute gambling fans, many will appear - based on the integrity of the information in the Raging Rag - to have little or no chance.  According to the Professor, "The number of variables that must be accurately considered in picking big mutuels, such as BREEDING, ODDS, and PLACEMENT (BOP), are oftentimes relatively easy to decipher.  Once BOP has been determined, TRAINER INTENT becomes paramount.  Sometimes the correct placement for an individual is best determined when knowledgeable breeding principles are applied.  Because current breeding practices are, to a very large degree, founded on ignorance, the pathetic mongrelization of the breed has resulted.  What may appear as a well-bred horse to the average player, in fact, may be little more than junk.  Acquiring accurate breeding knowledge is no easy task."

Most of the horses provided by Getting Down will range between 7-12 to 1, with a fair amount in the high teens and the early twenties, with an occasional MONSTER BOOMER, the kind that leaves many so-called handicappers shaking their heads.  A surprising number of our picks will be rated very high, making them good front-end plays.  All you have to do is "pull the trigger."

We are not magicians.  We cannot create Form Reversals out of thin air.  If we are unable to detect a "play," we will not post a bunch of garbage (short prices) hoping that one might finish in the money.  If we can't find a good horse at a given GT, we go to the next day's entries.  Remember, your money's worth is not measured by a flurry of compulsive activity - but rather in the value of a CALCULATED STRIKE.

Professor Reighberger had this to say about picking horses:  "If you're looking to play a lot of favorites, or short prices, you definitely should look elsewhere.  Getting Down is not a mom-and-pop handicapping service.  They will be mentioned occasionally, however, but only in conjunction with a price horse when Gimmick Gambling is involved. Given the powerful drugs available to horsemen that can dramatically alter a horse's performance, to include the potential for COLD TURKEY - without warning; without any sign of improvement - it would be ridiculous to suggest that we can confidently point to every Boomer that crosses the finish line first.  But there's plenty of Boomers to go around - a good number of which are detectable when one considers breeding and any number of negative/positive patterns.  For those of you who wish to hone their skills in this regard, stay abreast of the serialized material in Understanding Positive Negatives."

Getting Down is not responsible for the way in which you manage your money.  The only thing that we guarantee is that if you regularly subscribe to TRADITIONAL METHODS OF HANDICAPPING, plus maybe a few wild-eyed hunches along the way, there's a 98 percent chance you're firmly entrenched in a losing pattern.  In that favorites cross the finish line first only about 30 percent of the time, your negative number would be 70, a factor which represents much greater failure and risk than when compared to Getting Down.
